Postdoctoral Fellowship in Film History at UFSCar

The Postgraduate Program in Image and Sound (PPGIS/UFSCar) announces the opening of a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Film History, associated with the FAPESP Thematic Project “Audiovisual, History, and Preservation: the place of Brazilian newsreels and television reports in the construction of memory (1946–1974)” (Grant No. 2022/06032-0).

The fellowship will be developed under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Arthur Autran Franco de Sá Neto (CECH-UFSCar), with Prof. Dr. Eduardo Victorio Morettin (ECA-USP) as the Principal Investigator of the Thematic Project.

The selected researcher will investigate the relationship between communism and Brazilian cinema between 1946 and 1954, focusing on:

  1. Identifying film professionals connected to the Brazilian Communist Party (PCB);

  2. Analyzing representations of communists and communism in non-fiction films from the period;

  3. Examining the main ideas defended by communists regarding Brazilian cinema.

Requirements:
Applicants must hold a PhD in Communication, History, Art History, or Social Sciences; have experience working with primary sources related to audiovisual history; and have publications in the field. The PhD must have been awarded within the last seven years.

Monthly grant: R$ 12,570.00 (plus a 10% technical reserve for research-related expenses)
