History

The Postgraduate Program in Image and Sound (PPGIS) had its creation ratified in a CAPES meeting that took place in July 2007, and its first class began in 2008. However, its history began much earlier. The project of the Postgraduate Program in Image and Sound is a result of the experience and commitment of several professors involved in the undergraduate program of Image and sound at UFSCar, which began in 1996, with an emphasis on cinema and audiovisual production, and biased towards a humanistic and technical training.

Within the UFSCar structure, PPGIS is connected to CECH (Education and Human Sciences Centre), together with other 14 programs, 3 of which with professional degrees.

Since the beginning, PPGIS is focused on Image and Sound, with two lines of research: History and Politics of the audiovisual, and Audiovisual Narrative. Over thirteen years of existence, the Program has granted 114 master’s degrees in Image and Sound.
