General information

UFSCar is a university that stands out for its excellence in research work and rigorous training of researchers through its Master and Doctoral Programs. The Pro-rectorate for Graduate Studies seeks to provide information and support the establishment of cooperation agreements with international graduate programs, with a view to disseminating and increasing research activities and training researchers. In addition to the various agreements and agreements, we also seek to encourage internships for professors and students in other countries, as well as to improve the conditions for receiving foreign students in our graduate programs.

The international insertion of the programs has been encouraged and is one of the topics that attest to the excellence of the centers for the training of masters and doctors. CAPES, CNPq and FAPESP have several alternatives for fostering international internships, expressing the goal pursued by Brazilian researchers and professors: to develop the activities of Brazilian postgraduate courses in the world, by supporting research groups through international exchange, seeking the excellence of our postgraduate studies.

UFSCar International Cooperation: Information on international agreements between foreign institutions and UFSCar, and how to make an international agreement with a foreign institution at the Graduate level, contact the General Service for International Relations (SRInter).

CAPES International Cooperation: Develop Brazilian postgraduate activities globally. CAPES International Cooperation seeks to support Brazilian research groups through international exchange, seeking the excellence of our graduate studies.

CNPQ International Cooperation: At CGCIN - General Coordination of International Cooperation of CNPq, international scientific and technological cooperation is undertaken by supporting the mobility of researchers in the joint development of research, training at a high level of human resources, in addition to participation in international organizations.

FAPESP International Cooperation: FAPESP has a large number of agreements with funding agencies, research institutions and foreign companies to select and co-finance collaborative research. Funding opportunities related to each of these agreements can be found on FAPESP's website.

International Agreements and Projects

PPGIS recently joined two programs that encourage its international insertion:

  • PEC-PG Program, of the General Coordination of International Cooperation (CGCIN) of CNPq, which has already resulted in the mobility of a student from Venezuela, who completed his degree in 2015 with research on documentary production in Venezuela.
  • Program of Alliances for Education and Training of the OAS (PAEC), with the selection of a Colombian student, who began participating in the Program in 2016 and completed a master's degree in 2018.

The Program also maintains an academic-scientific cooperation agreement with the University of Algarve (UALG), Portugal, which has been taking place since 2013 and has already resulted in the co-orientation of graduate students, mini courses, and research internships.

Research Groups linked to PPGIS organize international events, such as the GEMInIS Group — which organizes the JIG (GEMInIS International Journey) since 2014, and the Cinemídia Group — which organized its first international meeting in 2015.

Between 2015-2019, PPGIS was part of the project “Towards an Intermedial History of Brazilian Cinema: Exploring Intermediality as a Historiographic Method”, a research project in international exchange, based on the notice of the AHRC - Arts & Humanities Research Council, of the United Kingdom, with FAPESP, from Brazil. The project involved eleven researchers, divided between PPGIS/UFSCar and the University of Reading, in England. In its four years of work, the joint effort has spanned several fronts: congresses, workshops, books and dossiers in scientific journals, to the realization of video essays and events with a cultural impact, presented to the English and Brazilian public.
