Students must complete 100 (one hundred) credits to be entitled the Master in Image and Sound. Of this total, at least 40 (forty) credits must be completed in subjects and 60 (sixty) credits result from the elaboration and approval of the dissertation in defence.

Of the 40 (forty) credits in subjects, at least 16 (sixteen) must be taken in classes related to the same line of research in which the student is working, which must be the same as that of its advisor. The master's student can also fulfil up to 40% of the credits in disciplines offered by other “stricto sensu” Graduate Programs, provided that with the consent of their advisor and the CPG.

The qualifying exam must be taken within 18 (eighteen) months after enrolling in the Program and the defence of the dissertation, must happen within 24 (twenty-four) months. This rule applies to students who joined the PPGIS from 2019 onwards. Students who do not have a scholarship may apply for an extension of another six months for the defence.
